1. Bring your photos to life#
WhatsApp is testing a feature for sharing “live” (motion) photos in chats, groups and channels!
How it will work#
You will now be able to send photos that include short bursts of movement and sound, similar to the Live Photos feature available on iOS.
Why it is needed#
- A more immersive media sharing experience. “Live” photos will allow you to share more vivid and memorable moments that go beyond static images.
- More emotion and impressions. Motion and sound will add more life to photos and help to better convey the atmosphere of the moment.
Status#
WhatsApp is testing this feature, and some beta testers have already started to see signs of the new functionality in their app.
2. Verified links to Instagram#
WhatsApp to add feature that allows users to add verified Instagram profile links.
How it will work#
Users will be able to verify their Instagram profile links on WhatsApp via the Meta Account Center, which will allow a verification badge to be displayed next to linked Instagram profiles.
Why it is needed#
- Increased trust. Verifying account ownership will help ensure that profile links are genuine and reduce the risk of impersonation.
- Security. Improved account identification and verification.
- Consistent experience across iOS and Android. The feature will be available on both platforms.
Status#
WhatsApp intends to roll out profile link verification to iOS users in the future, ensuring a consistent experience across both platforms.
3. Control over group invitations#
WhatsApp is expanding group management options for Android! You no longer need to be an admin to create and send a group invitation link (including a QR code), if the admin enables this feature in advance.
How it will work#
Group admins will be able to decide whether members can view and share the invitation link. This option will be located in the admin tools section of the group settings.
Why it is needed#
- Allows admins to more flexibly manage access to the group invitation link.
- Admins can delegate permission to invite new members to other group members.
- Group members can share the invitation link with their contacts without contacting the admin.
Status#
WhatsApp is testing this feature, and some beta testers can already control the visibility of the group invitation link.
4. AI assistant for perfect messages#
WhatsApp continues to care about the safety of its users. Now, when you are added to a group by unknown contacts, you will receive a special notification.
How it will work#
Users will now be able to enhance their messages before sending using artificial intelligence. The assistant will offer different tone options, helping to customize messages before sending, and will provide several suggestions to choose from. Users will be able to review and select the version that best suits their intentions, while keeping communications safe and private.
Why it is needed#
- Message quality improvements. Helps users formulate clearer and more expressive messages.
- Variety of styles. Allows you to choose the right tone for different situations.
- Privacy. Messages are processed privately using AI.
Status#
WhatsApp is testing this feature with a limited list of users - some have already started to see signs of the new functionality in their app.
5. Advanced control over group invitations for iOS#
WhatsApp has also expanded the ability to manage groups for iOS! That is, all the information from point 3 is relevant for this innovation as well.
Now you don’t have to be an administrator to create and send an invitation link to a group (including a QR code), if the administrator enables this function in advance.
Why is this necessary#
Additional control and flexibility for group administrators managing access to a group on iOS.
Status#
The function is in development and is available in the beta version of WhatsApp for iOS.
6. WhatsApp will show who viewed the status#
WhatsApp is continuing to improve its status functionality and is working on a feature that will allow users to see who recently viewed their status update and privacy settings.
How it will work#
At the bottom of the status screen, you will see thumbnails of contacts who recently viewed your update. You will see a few recent viewers, as well as the total number of views. Next to the views, you will see which audience (e.g. “My contacts”, “My contacts except”) the status update was posted to.
Why it works#
- More visual feedback. You will be able to quickly assess which of your contacts showed interest in your status.
- Audience control. Easily check if your status was posted to the right audience and if there were any mistakes in your privacy settings.
- Improved insights. Quickly understand how interested your update is among your contacts.
Status#
The feature is in development and is available in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android.
Conclusion#
WhatsApp continues to delight us with new features that make communication more lively, secure, manageable, and convenient. Live photos, verified links to Instagram*, AI assistant, expanded control over groups, and status view information are just some of the innovations that await us.
